This graduation paper examines the problem of conveying linguocultural and communicative-pragmatic aspects in translations of British feature films into Russian.
In today's world, where information is increasingly presented visually, the study and translation of audiovisual materials such as films and TV series are becoming increasingly important. One of the urgent problems of translation remains the issue of transmitting cultural realities, especially in the film industry.
Realities are linguistic elements reflecting the national identity and cultural characteristics of the people. The issue of their translation is especially important in the era of globalization, when national identity is under threat.
Despite the fact that many linguists, including G.V. Chernov, L.N. Sobolev, A.E. Suprun, S.I. Vlakhov, S.P. Florin, Y. Gumen, E. Nida and P. Newmark, have made significant contributions to the study and classification of realities, many issues related to their translation remain open.
The relevance of this study is due to the need for a more detailed study of the problem of understanding and transmitting the linguistic and cultural, communicative and pragmatic aspects of translation. It is especially important to emphasize that consideration of this topic using the examples of British films helps not only to increase scientific interest in the phenomenon of the cultural component itself, but also to further clarify the features of its preservation and reproduction in the field of film translation.
Since we also consider the communicative and pragmatic aspect, it is not superfluous to note that recently more and more studies of the relationship between culture and language have appeared in linguoculturology, and language is considered to be the cultural code of the nation, and not just an instrument of communication and cognition.
The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time in one study an attempt is made to present a comprehensive linguistic and cultural, communicative and pragmatic analysis of British feature films in the translation aspect, as well as an attempt to streamline the relevant terminology.
The aim is to identify methods of transmission of linguocultural and communicative-pragmatic features in the film translation of British feature films.
In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to perform a number of tasks:
1. To study the peculiarities of film translation and its types.
2. Examine the linguocultural component as an object of transfer in film translation.
3. To reveal the essence of the concept "linguocultural component", to consider the existing alternative terms and classifications.
4. Examine the communicative-pragmatic component as an object of transfer in translation, disclose the essence and content of the concept.
5. Consider the problem of adequacy and equivalence in the context of transferring the linguocultural and communicative-pragmatic component in movie translation.
6. To study the specifics of British feature films, considered in the framework of this study, from the point of view of translation.
7. Identify and analyze the problems of transferring the linguocultural and communicative-pragmatic component into Russian when translating British feature films and consider ways of solving them became an object of research.
The object of the study is cultural specific lexis and cultural realities in British cinematography and their equivalents in the film translation of British feature films.
The subject of the study was the methods and techniques of transmitting linguistic and cultural, communicative and pragmatic features in the film translation of British feature films.
The theoretical significance of the work lies in the fact that for the first time a comprehensive study of the culturally specific lexis and cultural realities in the British feature film Happy-go-lucky was undertaken, and this is the relevance of the research....

This qualification research paper is devoted to the problem of transfer of linguocultural and communicative-pragmatic aspects in the translation of British feature films into Russian, which we considered on the material of the movie Happy- Go-Lucky directed by Mike Leigh and the translation of this film into Russian, made by the Diva Universal voice-acting studio, as well as the original script in English, available on the Internet.
In the theoretical part of the study, the main concept under consideration was "reality" (Russian "реалия"): The correlation of this term with similar terms found in translation studies was analyzed, classifications of realities were studied, as well as classifications of methods of their transmission. Under the realities in the framework of this study, it is customary to understand words denoting objects and phenomena characteristic of the life of a particular people and absent from the culture of another people. Due to their national specificity, such words require a special approach when translating.
Cultural realities are widely represented in feature films and can cause significant difficulties in the translation process. Firstly, because of the lack of correspondences in other languages of designated objects and phenomena in other cultures, and secondly, because of the need to convey not only the objective meaning of reality, but also to reflect its special flavor. The presence of such lexis in the text necessitates the use of pragmatic adaptation, which involves making changes to the text aimed at creating a finished product understandable to the receiving party.
Due to the fact that the recipient is a Russian viewer, when translating a foreign film, it is necessary to adapt British cultural realities in order to avoid misunderstandings that can lead to a negative perception of the film.
Despite the fact that two main types of adaptation have been identified - linguocultural and communicative-pragmatic, the boundaries between them are conditional, since the translator often resorts to several types of adaptation in the same case.
The entire practical chapter of this study is devoted to the analysis of techniques for transmitting realities. Taking as a basis the classification of cultural- specific vocabulary by V. Vinogradov, Y. Gumen, P. Newmark and E. Nida, we have developed our own classification for the film in question and analyzed the collected material based on it.
Ways of transferring cultural realities into Russian include: tracing method, the selection of a direct equivalent, the use of lexical transformations such as generalization, concretization and contextual substitution; omission, descriptive translation. Transcription, transliteration, literal translation, and neutralization were used less frequently. Such a variety of techniques used for translation indicates the translator's desire to find the optimal solution for transmitting cultural realities, taking into account the limitations of screen time.
A further perspective of the study is presented in a more detailed study of how the thematic affiliation of the reality can influence the choice of a translation strategy for transferring a foreign reality into Russian.
